Video: Newly Posted Teachers Can Do Galamsey To Survive – GES Director General

The Director General of the Ghana Education Service has asked the newly recruited teachers who are yet to receive their Staff IDs to do galamsey to survive.

In an interview on UTV’s Mpo ne Mpo today, 22nd July 2022 he said “They should go and do galamsey. They have been eating before they got employed.”

According to some people the galamsey means they should do other small works to survive till they are paid. Others believe it’s not in that dimension.

Some newly recruited teachers have been working for about 7 months without salary. The Director General however promised that by next week, the Staff ID’s will be ready.

“Galamsey here is a term we normally use to refer to as extra classes or part time in a private school.” A user explained.
