Government of Ghana led by His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo has been urging Parliament to approve a $1 billion loan facility but the minority has been recalcitrant.
They demanded full probe into the need for the said loan facility before they can consider whether it’s worth approving or not. The minority also argued that the government of His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo has borrowed a lot of loans yet there not much to show for them.
The chairman of Parliament’s Finance Committee has finally revealed the reason why the loan approval is critical.
According to the Chairman, Kweku Kwarteng, without the loan facility the administration of the country will be very difficult as government is relying on the approval of the $1bn loan by Parliament to “pay salaries and deal with other critical commitments.”
Kweku Kwarteng further revealed that apart from payment if salaries, there are other urgent debt servicing that the facility is needed to save the country at this critical moment. He said “We will need to pay our salaries we will need to service our debt. There are things to do right now that require a facility like this to be procured.”
Hope they will lay the full documents before Parliament for full digestion into it as the minority us requesting to pave way for it’s approval.
