Massive Reactions As TUC Calls For Ex- Gratia To Article 71 Office Holders To Be Scrapped

Many Ghanaians have reacted to Trade Union Congress (TUC) calls for the scrapping of emoluments paid to Article 71 Office Holders as Ex-gratia.

Ex-gratia according to Relyonsoft.com is most often used in a legal context. When something has been done as ex gratia, it has been done voluntarily, out of kindness or grace. In law, an ex gratia payment is a payment made without the giver recognizing any liability or legal obligation.

Following the call by TUC for it to be scrapped, on TV3 news, many Ghanaians have shared their views.

Reactions

Below are some of the views.

“This call from TUC is long over due. The truth of the matter is, this ex-gratia thing is what is making politicians to be calling for ‘all die be die’. They will do everything to come to power at all cost. If those offices are made unattractive like the teaching profession no one will be killing to come to serve his nation. A user wrote “It’s either public servant and article 71 office holders are brought at par or scrape.” Someone added.

Another user said that these are some of the issues that warrants demonstrations in the country. The politicians especially both NPP and NDC won’t support this course because they know they’re milking the country through this.

Other users asserted that we must all support this course because the inequality in this country is too much.

“Ex-gratia is principle is not wrong. However, the amount involved is ridiculous.” A user added.

Do you think Ex-gratia should be scrapped off or all workers must also enjoy some or the amount involve should be reduced?
