Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the MP for the Assin Central, has scolded President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for seeking a bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). In his view, governments who tend to seek external support from the IMF implies that such governments have failed to live up to expectations.
Agyapong told Accra-based Citi News that, during NDC’s era, he said that any government that seeks for support from IMF has failed the country. Therefore sticking to his assertion, President Nana Akufo-Addo and the entire NPP government has let Ghana down. He added that, he knows people will not take this serious but that is the truth of the matter and he is not going to just sit back and keep quiet. Hon. Kennedy Agyapong argued that; the mere fact that the government has gone to IMF means they could not manage the country.
However, he went on to explain that; there is a difference between the IMF under NDC government and the IMF under NPP government. Under NPP government, the country has been unfortunate to face the Covid pandemic and Russia-Ukraine war in succession. These two factors alone have had major economic impact in the whole world, America which now has an inflation rate of 8.7%.
On the other hand, the situation under NDC when they took Ghana to IMF was far better than the current state the country is in. In all, though the NPP government has failed, the NDC government has the higher level for failure.
