If The NPP Want To Survive In Ghana, Then They Need To Elect A Non-Akan To Lead – Nyaho Tamakloe

The ruling Patriotic Party is scheduled to host their national executive elections tomorrow. The elections will come off at the Accra Sports stadium. The NPP seeks to break the 8 and are bent on electing the best of hands to lead the party in winning the next general elections in 2024. After the elections of the national executive this month the party will then be set to enter the final round of elections in electing a flagbearer.

The biggest position for tomorrow is who will become the National Chairman of the party. Chairman Freddie Blay is stepping down and this has made the race to chairmanship very tight. The leading competitors include Stephen Asamoah Boateng, Stephen Ayensu Ntim and Prof. Ameyaw Ekumfi. Aside these, there are other candidates like Gifty Asantewa Ayeh, Abankwah Yeboah Akwasi Osei Adjei and Sammy Crabbe.

In an interview with Nyaho Tamakloe, one of the founding members of the NPP, the stalwart cautioned the party on choosing an Akan to lead as national chairman. He said based on his experience he will prefer someone than an Akan to become National Chairman for the party. He cited examples of those who are non-Akans who have given victory to the party.

“If they want to survive in this country then they need a non-Akan as the National Chairman. The old people did it and it worked. Da Rocher did it and it worked. Odoi-Sykes was the chairman and it worked. Jake Obetsebi Lamptey also tried and it worked. A word to the wise is enough,” Nyaho Tamakloe said
