Many Ghanaians have criticized Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia for saying that things could be worse before they get better.
The vice-president speaking on Ghana’s economic challenges and the country’s engagement with the IMF at a public event in Accra, on 14th July 2022 made the remarks below;
“Unfortunately, judging from where we are today, there is no end in sight for the Russia-Ukraine war. While we hope for a quick end to the war, we must understand that things could get worse before they get better.”
He emphasized on the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and how the Russian-Ukraine war are also having a negative impact on Ghana. He advised Ghana to be self reliant.
Reactions
The comments of Dr. Bawumia has caused many criticisms.
A user wrote; “Only God knows how these excuses by Dr. Bawumia will add sugar and bread to the kooko sakora being given to the children in schools across the country.”
Others were of the view that it is not the effect of Russian -Ukraine war but rather excessive borrowing by Dr. Bawumia and his government.
“Dr. Bawumia will be a fine President. He is visionary. Digitization is the solution to most of Africa’s economic challenges.” A user commended him despite the several criticisms.
