More needs to be done to retain players in the league – Yaw Annoh.

Reigning Ghana Premier League goal king Yaw Annoh has said that our league in its current state is not motivating enough for the players to stay in. He said the lack of sponsorship is hampering the development of the league. As a result of this, our best players end up leaving the country to elsewhere for better incentives and packages. The contracts on offer at other places are more lucrative and financially rewarding than our league.

He said about 4 players left the league at the end of the season. This scenario will continue to occur always if enough investments and sponsorship are not secured for the league. Hardly will you see players from other African countries and beyond coming to our league. It’s not common. This is because the sponsorships those leagues receive are huge and rewarding.

If they are getting all these why would they want to leave? Yaw has hit the nail right on the head. I even learned some of the North African teams pay their players more than some European countries. When you play in such a league, you are well motivated to stay. No wonder most of the Caf champions league and Confederation cup winners are mostly from the north of Africa.
