The past week has been interesting as issues relating to government’s U-turn on seeking help from the International Monetary Fund has been trending. This has suddenly become important because government communicators had initially opposed the idea of going to the international lending agency. Ministers and government MPs went from station to station making it clear that they wanted nothing to do with the IMF.
On Alhaji and Alhaji today, Saturday, July 9, 2022, Fiifi Kwetey, a former Deputy Minister of Finance under the erstwhile Mahama government fumed at the excuses that government is using to justify the failed economy. According to him the leaders lack the balls to own up that they have failed. He raised questions as to what the current government blamed the Mahama government for incompetence and yet cannot not diagnose themselves.
Interestingly, Fiifi alluded that with the increasing number of trivial issues being used as an excuse he wouldn’t be surprised if the government blames the bad economy on the death of the late former Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe. The former PM was shot dead yesterday while giving a campaign speech.
“I will not be surprised if Akufo-Addo and Bawumia will say one of the main things affecting the economy is the assassination of the former Prime Minister of Japan. It is becoming ridiculous. Be man enough. Be man to say that it is as a result of bad leadership. The NPP will not however and rather blaming Covid,” Fiifi said
