My take. I am much more particular to this industrial action and I hope it ends well. 20% COLA shouldn’t be the impulse to the call of many strike actions from various unionized groups under the Trades Union Congress of Ghana.
I am actually looking for a total industrial revolution, (people must attach political motivation). In the same country, with the same degrees and qualifications the salary differential from work to work is way too high. Whilst others take home from Ghc40,000. to Ghc 120,000. excluding per diems and allowances, others also take Ghc1700 to Ghc2600 maximum with no other conditions attached. Some of the people who take these fat salaries also take exgratia every four years, and also retire on their salaries. Other who also take less, are paid meager retiring package and don’t retire on their salaries. I don’t even want to talk about those who fall under the minimum wage
The politician, the CEO, the civil worker ( doctors, teachers, nurses, civil servants, police, military, etc), article 71 people, we all attended the same school. We cannot all work in the same place that’s why you work there and I work here. There must be a true single spine that checks all of us in terms of job classification and evaluation. Paying someone with Ghc 120,000 and paying another with Ghc 1,800 is way too much.
All of us must call for equity within the public space.
To be continued.
