The Zambian’s captain, Barbara Banda, was ruled out of the ongoing Women’s African Cup of Nation yesterday after she failed to meet the standard to be determined as a female. Although Barbara possesses all the female body organs.
According to FIFA, the rules were introduced to ensure a level playing field and safeguard segregation between males and females.
After a medical test was run on Barbara, it was determined that the level of natural testosterone in her is more than the required standard and may give her the advantage to perform well than the rest of the players. It is either she reduces the testosterone through medicine or surgery before she would be considered to participate in female competition.
That ruling didn’t go well with social media users as they shared their views on their disappointment in the football governing body.
A Facebook user asked, “Is it her fault to have a masculine body?” It is a genuine question to ask because a person can’t determine the genetic make-up in him or her.
The football governing body is asking her to take medicine for the testosterone to reduce but medicines come with their side effect. What I know about is that the reproductive organ assigned to a person determines .
Another user also said, “How does my biochemistry makeup influence my . I think there’s something wrong somewhere, some body should educate me.”
“Very soon there won’t be any women’s football. The Europeans are allowing men to turn into women,” said Mark Kofi.
