We have witnessed a first phase of the mobile money taxation in this country. Since its implementation, there have been a drastic decrease in mobile transactions as well as bank transactions. People have gone to the banks to withdraw their monies at rates that have never been seen in the history of this country.
There have been a change in the way people see this and even amid this, the toughest decision has been made. According to the finance minister, people have found ways to dodge or escape the mobile money taxes. And this has been revealed to be causing depreciation in the expected income.
As a result, merchants and all other loop holes which they left bare are going to be made to pay the e-levy among others. This has raised concerns as people think it is a decision to punish the majority of Ghanaians who have demonstrated against this government in their quest for a better life.
