Former Asante Kotoko defender Edwin Tuffour Frimpong has won the Ethiopian league title with St George SC after they closed the 2021/22 campaign with a win.
Going into the last game of the season, St George were a point ahead of Fasil Ketema with 62 points after 29 matches, and, needed to win their final game to be confirmed champions.
And, Tuffour Frimpong was in action for 90 minutes as St George dully delivered today, (Friday), as they defeated Addis Ababa Ketema 4-0 in their last game of the campaign to be crowded champions.
On their path, second placed Fasil Ketema needed a win and hope that St George will drop points on the final day to be crowned champions.
However, Ketema lost their final game of the campaign 3-2 away to Dire Dawa to remain on 61 points after 30 matches.
St George SC closed the campaign with 65 points from the 30 matches they played and, Tuffour Frimpong played in the majority of those games.
Ethiopia’s most successful football club, won 18 matches, drew 11 and lost just one game throughout the season.
They scored 50 goals which was the most by any side and, also conceded the least number of goals, 11, with Tuffour Frimpong playing a pivotal role in the heart of their defence.
St George SC has now qualified to represent Ethiopia in the CAF Champions League next season, a campaign which begins in September this year.
Tuffour Frimpong will look to impress for the Ethiopian champions in their African campaign, as he continues with his exploits outside the country of his berth.
