“Drama” In Parliament: Speaker Reacts After NPP MP Sat On Someone’s Seat In Parliament

There was a bit of drama in parliament on Wednesday after one MP by name Honorable Vincent Ekow Assafuah failed to sit on his dedicated seat but sat on someone’s seat in parliament.

It all started when Honorable Vincent Ekow Assafuah, MP for Old Tafo constituency sat on the seat of an absentee MP. Honorable Assafuah raised his hand in parliament to ask a question but the speaker of Parliament saw his position and made it clear to him that the seat is not for him.

He urged him to go back to his seat before his question would be recorded in his name.

Honorable, go back to your seat. Go and ask the question from your seat. Do that for me” he said

After making this statement to the MP, most of the MPs, especially those at the minority side also shouted at the MP to go back to his seat. There was a bit of laughter in parliament as well.

Members of parliament do not sit anywhere they like in the chamber. They have been grouped according to caucus and years in office. New members of parliament are often called “backbenchers” because their seats are always at the back. MPs who have been in their position for long are usually found at the middle or at the front of parliament.
