Arise Ghana Movement staged an unprecedented two day protest in Accra. The demonstration which started peacefully ended violently on day one. At least 12 police officers sustained injuries while a number of demonstrators were equally injured.
What made the protest beautiful is that it attracted a number of people from different parts of the country and from different backgrounds. Individuals and associations from all the political parties were present.
One particular protester who caught the attention of this writer is a lecturer from the University for Development Studies (UDS).
The lecturer travelled from Tamale to Accra to join the protest. When asked about his reason for joining the protest, the professor made a chilling revelation. According to the lecturer who introduced himself as Professor Prosper Ayelasono, Ghana’s economy is in a ditch and it will take demonstrations to ring a bell in the ears of the government of the day.
He said as a political science lecturer, he had come to the conclusion that the only language the government understands is demonstration.
When asked if the demonstration will yield any result, Professor Prosper Ayelasono said the protest has a long term effect. He disagreed that several protests in the past did not yield positive impact. According to him, the government always listen but slowly. He was hopeful the president will listen and change things for the better.
When asked about his message is to the president, the professor said if he meets the president, he will tell him to stop the cronyism, corruption, state capture, stop the collapse of business and reduce the economic hardship.
In a related development, Dr. Vladimir Antwi Danso has revealed that the police planted imposters among the protesters. He said that helped the security agency in intelligence gathering. He however denied the allegation that the imposters were the ones who pelted stones at the police. Dr. Vlademir Antwi Danso was speaking on TV3 New Day when he made this revelation.
