The clash between the Ghana Police Service and the ‘Arise for Ghana’ protesters yesterday was uncalled for. The cause of this fight is that the protesters wanted to use some routes and the police said that they will not allow them. According to the General Secretary of the NDC, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, they wrote to the Ghana Police Service that they will be using certain routes in Accra for their demonstration.
The police said they will not agree so they went to court for an appeal. However, the issue is still in court. As a result of this, they decided to use the routes stated in the letter sent to the police. But the police tried to prevent them and it led to this chaos. Watching the screenshots from the video in this article, you can see that some young men were recorded on camera angrily throwing stones at the Ghana Policemen and women.
The police came in their numbers on a bus to calm down the situation. However, these guys were caught on camera standing afar throwing huge stones at the Ghana Policemen and women. This resulted in some of the policemen getting wounded and their bus getting destroyed. The good news is that the faces of these guys were captured in this video.
The Ghana Police Service needs to go after these young men and deal with them. This way it will serve as a deterrent to others to desist from such violent behavior. If they were sent by the leadership of the NDC to do this, the leadership must also be questioned. You cannot be destroying state properties and causing harm to security men in the name of demonstration.
