A former National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Yaw Boateng Gyan, has shared his thoughts on Former President Mahama desire to lead the party again for the 2024 general elections stating that Mr Mahama should rather “be out there doing what the likes of Former President John Agyekum Kufour are doing.”
Mr Yaw Boateng Gyan made this known on Okay FM’s ‘Ade Akye Abia’ programme. According to him, death has taking away prominent and founding leaders of the NDC that should have constituted elders of the party just like Former President Kufuor and the likes are doing for the NPP.
He noted that elders like that are very important for the party. He believes former president Mahama who is vibrant and healthy now should have been that elder for the NDC.
Mr Yaw Boateng Gyan noted “The NDC has unfortunately lost some astute members who if they were alive would have been the eyes of the party. The likes of former President Jerry John Rawlings, John Evans Atta Mills and Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur. But we still have former President John Dramani Mahama who is very much alive and doing so well healthwise. He added that He needs to be out there doing what the likes of former president John Agyekum Kuffour is doing for his party and curtail this desire to once again lead the party at all cost,” he said.
Mr Yaw Boateng Gyan also spoke against the perception of some NDC characters that have thrown all the support behind just one person. He said there other able men in the party that can deliver and wants the party executives to give them the room.
He noted “There are certain NDC characters who presume the party belongs to one person and that it is that person’s birth right to be flagbearer of the party . . . the name of the party indicates it’s a National Democratic Congress; we should be very democratic in our doings and allow for competitive competition if the party is searching for someone to be its leader.” He concluded that “It is insane to think that aside Mahama, nobody is competent enough to lead the party. There are several other competent people out there who have shown leadership qualities,” he stressed.
