The much-awaited ‘Arise Ghana Youth’ street protest, has finally hit the street of Accra; today 28 June 2022.The demonstration, which was organized by the Arise Ghana Youth; was aimed at putting pressure on the Nana Addo-Bawumia government, to improve living condition of the citizens, and to address the numerous challenges being faced in the country.
Starting from the Kwame Nkrumah Circle (Obra Sport), the arise Ghana demo saw Hundreds of Ghanaians youth, and some elderly people, marching through the streets of Accra, clanged in red and black, to demand accountability and better living conditions for all Ghanaians.
The Arise Ghana Youth; prior the the demonstration released a statement; demanding a” full scale and bi-partisan parliamentary probe into COVID-19 expenditures, the grabbing of State lands, by officials of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government, particularly the de-classification of huge portions of the Achimota Forest reserve, the increased rate of police brutalities and state-sponsored killing of innocent Ghanaians, as well as the growing culture of human rights abuses, under the watch of President Akufo-Addo and Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. They are also demanding the total cancellation of the fraudulent “Agyapa” deal”.
The protesters are also “against persistent and astronomical hikes in fuel prices by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government, that has imposed excruciating economic hardships on Ghanaians, Protest against the imposition of the obnoxious E-Levy, on the already-burdened Ghanaian people, by the insensitive Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government, and demand for its immediate repeal”.
The demonstration which was harsh-tagged; #KromAyeshi, #MaaMliEwa and #SaveGhanaNow; also saw many the demonstrators, holding placards with very interesting messages, directed to the NPP and the Nana-Bawumia government.
