With the World Cup nearer than ever, FIFA has increased the number of players a team is expected to bring into the competition. The number which was previously 23 has been increased to 26. Today, 23rd June 2022, FIFA disclosed that its bureau which is made up of the FIFA President and the six confederation presidents reached an understanding and made amendments to the regulations.
The committee agreed that all 32 qualified nations should present 26 players for the competition. The decision to increase the squad list is due to the impact that COVID might have on the squad. Also, the bureau advises that countries make a provisional list of 35 to 55 players and then bring the number down to 26 before the competition.
