Beposo-based club Asekem FC defeated their arch rivals Pro Players Academy 4-3 on penalties to secure promotion to the National Division One League, DOL from the Ashanti region.
After a tense grand finale played at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi which ended 1-1 after 90 minutes on Thursday, the game travelled to the dreaded penalty shoot-out to decide the winner.
Asekem FC held their nerves better to win the shoot-out to secure passage to the second tier league after their heartbreaking moment last season.
Douglas Owusu opened the scoring for Asekem FC in the 10th minute and, they held on to end the first half in front by a goal.
The second session saw Pro Players Academy upping their game and, they got a deserved equalizer through Amano Williams in the 67th minute as the game ended 1-1.
Asekem FC will thus play in the DOL Zone Two league next season where they will look to build on this performance and hope to qualify to the Ghana Premier League, GPL.
For Pro Players Academy, this represents a failure on their part after starting the campaign so well.
They will have to regroup quickly and try again next season to achieve their aim of playing in the second tier league.
