The Volta Regional Branch of the National Association of Graduate Teachers has caution government that the patience of teachers is over stretched and members cannot bear it any longer. They are therefore calling on government to act immediately to avoid any industrial actions after.
The statement noted that the union can no more hold breath for government on behalf of it’s members and that the patience of teachers have been dragged for a long time. They are appealing to the President to use his executive Powers to act immediately to avoid reaction from members. MR. DAVID GELLIE said, “the patience of teachers is over stretched and leadership of the region cannot guarantee the reaction of members if the government does not grant the COLA of 20% at the end of June, 2022,” he added.
He again argued that the government has shown great insensitivity to the plight and a Union whose core mandate is to promote the welfare of its members cannot sit unconcern whilst we go through this suffering that has no end in sight.
Mr MR. DAVID GELLIE stressed that “We have come to our wits end; we can no longer bear the pain. We therefore demand of our leadership that, if at the end of June, 2022, our call for COLA is not heeded to, they have no option than to pay heed to the clarion call of our members to LAY DOWN OUR TOOLS.”
He concluded by adding that as result of the rising cost of living, due to high inflation in the country, they would like to humbly appeal to the President to “use your executive powers to grant a Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) of at least 20 percent to all public service workers the Armed Forces, the Police Service, the Prison Service, the Immigration Service and all security and Intelligence Agencies,” he stated.
