Independence Square threat; Captain Smart reveals serious issues confronting the country.

On the 6th of March 1957, Ghana had its independence from the British who were their colonial masters. Many years have gone by since the ceremony took place at the independence square which remains a sacred place for Ghanaians. This site remains one of the symbolic structures in the country and it is supposed to be maintained properly.

Various parades are held across the length and breadth of the country to showcase our military strength. The Independence Square serves this purpose perfectly with scores of security personnel marching to exhibit how ready they are to serve and protect their nation. It has been known as one of the iconic places and must be respected as such.

Ironically, the monument is in a very bad state and it took the effort of the vociferous journalist Captain Smart to uncover this. Speaking earlier this morning on the subject of “rotten independence,” the morning show host lamented how the place has been neglected by successive governments. Even though almost all the various heads of state swore at the independence square, they have all turned a blind eye to maintaining it.

In recent times, church activities have been held at this same place. The plastic chairs are broken, iron rods are falling off and there are cracks on the pillars. Captain Smart called on the president to help fix the independence square because this is an eyesore. He posited “the government must help restore the place to its former glory. The structure can collapse and kill people. This condition at the independence square depicts the mind of our leaders.”
