You Dare Not Conduct Yourself In That Manner: Samson Ayenini To Counsel Of State Officer Apart

Renowned Journalist and Lawyer, Samson Ayenini has described the denial of information sought by the Secretary to the revered Togbe Afede as a “misconduct”.

Samson Lardi Ayenini proffered this view during the “my take” segment of the Newsfile show on Joynews television.

Few days back, the office of Togbe Afede petitioned the Council of State Secretariat for an information on meeting attendance to rebutt some alleged claims by Paul Adom Otchere of Metro TV.

The Director of Finance and Administration, Stephen Blay, responded and redirected the requester, as per section 21 of the RTI law, to get that information that is already in circulation from another requester (Metro TV).

Some people have pointed out that he goofed in denying the information and redirecting instead because the first requester (Metro TV) is not a public institution per the readings of the law he posited his decision on.

Visibly unimpressed Samson Lardi Anyenini called out the officer and reprimanded him during the show.

Forward to 8:55:00

“Stephen Blay, the Concil of State is a public institution. The pen you use is bought with our tax money. The desk you sit on, the computers you use and the meetings you hold are held in our name and on our behalf and for out welfare. Literally, we have employed you. You are our employee and you must account to us. You dare not conduct yourself the way you have done. It’s most dishonorable. The law says give it because it belongs to the people not to you” he said.

He further accused the officer of misapplying section 21 of the Right To Information Law and advised him to do the needful.
