Okyehene Amoatia Ofori Panin described how he constantly crying out of frustration, rage, and pain in an exclusive interview with Asaase radio. He also stated how in 2015, John Dramani Mahama apologized for referring to his Kyebi state as the headquarters of Galamsey activities.
“In a private discussion with Mahama, I expressed my displeasure with the way he labeled Kyebi as Galamsey Headquarters. It was a regrettable statement. We moved forward when he made an unreserved apology. You see, I sometimes cry out in agony and rage at Galamsey’s antics. When people accuse me of Galamsey, it makes me cry “Okyehene clarified.
I personally approached then-President John Mahama’s head of defense staff in 2015 over the Galamsey threat. I implored him to aid us by releasing the soldiers to Kyebi. Because it was an election year, the military troops were deployed for only a week before being brought back.
I had to cry again because they were more concerned with winning their election than with assisting us in our struggle against Galamsey. When you tell me Kyebi is Galamsey’s headquarters after that, it’s like calling the dog a terrible name and hanging it.” Okyehene went on to say more.
” Look, Akufo Addo has declared war on Galamsey. He will undoubtedly lose votes, but his actions will benefit a large number of voters,” Okyehene remarked.
