We Don’t Have GHC 3.5 Billion To Remove Schools Under Trees But We Have GHC2.8 Billion For Cathedral

The Executive Director of Africa Educational Watch, EduWatch has lamented that Ghana don’t have 3.5 billion cedis to remove some 5,400 schools under trees but can give 2.8 billion cedis towards the building of the national cathedral.

In a post shared on his official Facebook page on Saturday, 18th June 2022, he wrote;

“We do not have GHC 3.5 billion to remove the 5,400 schools under trees but we have GHC 2.8 billion for the National Cathedral because we urgently need a place to house and worship ‘God’.”

The comments of the education think-tank executive director, comes as a background to the ongoing National Cathedral brouhaha. 2.8 million cedis was released by the government as seed money for the cathedral project. Initially it was said that the cathedral is private funded but a release from it’s secretariat has clarified that it is public property.

Kofi Asare in another post on the same day wrote;

“Yes, America, Europe etc have National Cathedrals but were they constructed at a time 5,400 of their basic schools existed under trees?”
