NPP’s Egyapa Mercer Finally Sends A Strong Message To Ghanaians Over Removing Taxes On Fuel

The member of Parliament for Sekondi Constituency who also doubles as the deputy minister of energy, Hon. Egyapa Mercer has sent a strong message to Ghanaians concerning the constant increase in fuel prices in the country. He made this known while speaking on Citi TV’s The Big Issue on Saturday, June 18, 2022.

During his submission on the show, Hon. Egyapa Mercer boldly revealed that the taxes on fuel cannot be removed because they all add up to 1.90p per litre and will not help consumers in any way if removed. He added that it will rather affect the government and its revenue hugely. The MP called for calm and revealed that the Akufo-Addo government is putting in place measures to control the prices of fuel.

“ Look, if you add up all the taxes on fuel, they add up to 1.90p per litre. It tells you that even if we remove all the taxes, it is not going to impact you and I when we go to the pumps. However, if those taxes are removed, it will affect the government hugely in terms of our revenue generation and so that’s the situation. We just cannot remove the taxes on fuel and that’s it. Some people say that the taxes on fuel makes up 40 percent of the price for consumers and that’s a complete lie.” Hon. Agyapa Mercer boldly revealed this on Citi TV.

If removing the taxes won’t make consumers better and yet they are saying remove them, why don’t you remove them??
