Joseph Paintsil of KRC Genk has counseled the national U-17 squad to be focused and follow head coach Paa Kwesi Fabin’s instructions. The Black Starlets started their WAFU Zone B U-17 competition poorly, losing 4-2 to Nigeria in Cape Coast, but rebounded on Friday, defeating Togo 3-0 to get to the semi-finals.
Paintsil, who formerly played for the Black Starlets, has advised the current crop of players to maintain a high degree of discipline. “Discipline and hard labor are required.” It’s a lot of things, but if you mix it all together and enjoy playing, you’ll be fine. I worked under Paa Kwesi Fabin, so I know what I’m talking about.
He’s an excellent coach, and we developed a strong bond and friendship. He’s a true physical trainer,” he said on TV3’s Warm Up Plus. “When you’re in Fabin’s hands, you’re going to be incredibly fit, and he likes disciplined guys.”
When we were with the national [U-17] team, all we needed to know was that there were times when we needed to be attentive and times when we could relax. When we were playing football, they wanted us to be completely concentrated. It’s not simple, but it’s a lot easier if you pay attention to the coaches,” he continued.
Paintsil played for the Black Stars in the 2021 African Cup of Nations, and was a member of the team that defeated Nigeria to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
