Former Togo striker, Sheyi Adebayor has expressed confidence in Ghana and other African countries heading to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Ghana, Senegal, Cameroon, Morocco and Tunisia are the continent’s representatives at the global international football festival later in November. Adebayor, who played in Togo’s debut FIFA World Cup in Germany 2006, is sure the African sides can hoist the continent’s flag high.
“We have good teams, listen I’m the one that made the draw in Cameroon in January and seeing all these countries that have qualified, Senegal is one of the best countries in Africa “They [Senegal] have proved it, they won the Africa Cup of Nations, they have qualified for the World Cup.
“Whether we like it or not, we are Africans we have to root for them, we have to support them, we have to show them love and let’s see what happens. “Obviously with a little bit of better we can expect more or something beautiful out of fit.” Adebayor told Radio Gold Sports.
Adebayor has previously played for French clubs, Metz, AS Monaco, England sides, Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham and Crystal Palace before stints Real Madrid in Spain before stints at Istanbul Basaksehir and Kayserispor and at Olimpia in Paraguay.
The Black Stars went past West African rivals, Nigeria in a two leg tie to book their fourth World Cup slot in Qatar later in the year. The first leg tie ended goalless in Kumasi with the reverse fixture producing a 1-1 draw in Abuja for Ghana to progress on the away goal rule.
