The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) penalized Marwako Fast Food $750,000 for the claimed food poisoning incident, according to the ‘s management.
This was revealed by Marwako’s Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Amin Lamptey, in an interview with TV3 on Monday, June 13 after the FDA issued a press statement earlier in the day indicating that the restaurant’s management had unilaterally destroyed the foods under investigation, causing the investigations to be hampered.
The Marwako eatery in East Legon has been closed as part of an inquiry into a food poisoning allegation. Mr Amin Lamptey confessed to food poisoning claims made by some members of the public over the weekend when speaking to TV3’s Judith Awotwe Tandoh on Thursday, May 12.According to him, the is still looking into the situation.
“The process to establish the root cause of the contaminations has been unfortunately hampered by Marwako’s unapproved and unilateral decision to destroy some of the food items while the investigation was in progress,” according to a statement released by the FDA on Monday, June 13.
The FDA has imposed the appropriate regulatory penalty and is monitoring the management of Marwako Fast Foods’ implementation of Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) to correct all non-conformances detected and prevent any recurrences.”
In response to the FDA’s statement, Amin Lamtey said, “Inasmuch as we agree with the FDA on what they have done thus far, we have suffered some fines, a very large amount of money.” We have to pay $750,000 to Marwako Fast Food Limited. With this release, we will examine what we can do with it and how we can best follow what the FDA has requested us to do so that we are on the same page.
“You must have checks and balances in everything you do, and we hope that what the FDA has done with Marwako will be applied to all restaurants so that we are all on the same page.”
