FixTheCountry movement convener, Oliver Baker-Vomawor is raising fundamental questions on why the Ghana Police Service in recent times been brutalizing innocent Ghanaians.
This came at the backdrop of the June 13 incident where a handful of Islamic Senior High School students were on a protest to help overcome what they call a frequent accident in front of their school premises.
Oliver’s Interest has been why the police have to intervene by using a live bullet?
On his( Oliver Baker-Vomawor) social media page( Facebook), the convener of the pressure group seeks to recommend a lasting solution on the matter. He said,”
a. An independent civilian expert body with a prosecutorial be established to probe allegations of violence by the members of the security agencies.
b.An immediate end of the deployment of military personnel and civilian crowd control situations, a complete ban on the deployment of the Ghana Armed Forces into primary, senior or tertiary educational establishments in connection with any demonstration by any student.
c. An immediate end of the use of live ammunition in protest by unarmed civilians, and on crowd control situations; and in particular, there should be a ban on the use of gun or live ammunition in student or crowd control activities.
d. An immediate putting in place of operating procedures on public order policing; which are consistent with human rights and respect for human dignity.
These and many more legitimate concerns have been raised by the group leader.
