As a matter of fact, most Ghanaians still remember the first time the Black Stars of Ghana played their first match at the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
It was the first ever world cup that the Black Stars qualified to. Some of the key players who qualified the Black Stars and also took part of this prestigious tournament seems to have encountered their greatest moment in their football career.
Former Ghanaian captain or Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah has talked about the 2006 world, his experience and what happens to him when he thinks about it.
Today is exactly 16 years ago and the the former ‘Number 10’ has revealed his feelings towards that moment and now. He was even surprised that, it is now 16 years since Ghana played their first game against the Italian National team.
Stephen Appiah sharing his feelings said that, “16 years ago at exactly 19:00 pm referee Simon Carlos blew his whistle to make reality a nation’s dream. Ghana played it’s first game against Italy in the 2006 World Cup in Germany. 16 years on I still feel the Nostalgic Moment in my genes and still hear the 43000 fans chants and cheer their own…time indeed flies.”
And today is exactly the day the Black Stars of Ghana played their first game at the 2006 World Cup in Germany. It was on 12 June 2006. And sadly Ghana lost to Italy in a 2-0 score.
