Kwame Antwi speaks again: There is nothing political on LGBTQ Bill as we have received 188 memoranda

Readers can recall that Honorable Muntaka made reference to the constitutional provision of Article 1064 which states that the delay of the Anti-LGBTQ bill should not exceed three months. Readers can also recall that the Honorable Muntaka also said that if the Chairman of the Legal Committee, Lawyer Kwame Antwi Ayimadu knew that the bill would delay, he should have provided that reason to the house.

On TV3, Honourable Lawyer Kwame Antwi can be remembered to have responded to claims that he was compromised. In his response, he told the TV3 journalist that he can not be compromised and assured that he is only doing his work. He further explained that the delay of the LGBTI Bill is not deliberate.

The Chairman of the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee has now appeared on TV3’s ‘the Keypoints’ show to provide more detailed clarifications. Lawyer Kwame Antwi spoke with Dzifa Bampoe in the presence of Kofi Adams as he detailed why there is a delayed passing of the bill.

He explained that due to the sensational nature of the Anti-LGBTQ Bill , he and his committee requested for memoranda from the Public. According to the lawyer and lawmaker, the committee has received 188 memoranda from the public. He explained that each sitting cost the state an average of GHS 145,000 due to the cost of the live TV hearing. He commended the Speaker of Parliament for approving payments. He added that there is nothing political about the process for passing the bill and he assured that the Executive has no influence over him.

Lawyer Kwame Antwi Anyimadu also explained that he will forgive Honourable Muntaka for his interpretation of the constitution but he can not forgive Lawyer Damfeamakpor for accusing him for deliberately delaying the process. He assured Ghanaians that there will be some changes and additions to the bill to make it better. He disagreed with comments that sought to indicate that he has been compromised.
