On the 2nd of June, the globe observed International Sex Workers’ Day, and thigh sellers in Murambinda used the occasion to vent some of the issues they are encountering with their clientele, one of which was the rising demand for anal sex.
Men they meet in bars, according to commercial sex workers, believe that since they are sex workers, they are open and eager to engage in any form of sexual behaviour. While in a conversation, one of the thigh merchants (name withheld) stated that a lot of guys are requesting anal and oral sex from them.
She stated that their health is now in jeopardy since they are more likely to get STIs and other sexually transmitted diseases when they engage in such sexual activities because preventive devices such as condoms tend to break.
Many women are now hesitant to go to the doctor if they become infected as a result of anal s ex, according to the lady. She alleges that one woman died as a result of her fear of informing the nurses and physicians of her medical condition. Doctors didn’t figure out what was wrong with her until she died, she claimed.
Following similar news, it recently revealed that Zimbabwean sex workers are allegedly using bread packages as contraception as the price of condoms and other basic necessities continues to climb. A 21-year-old sex worker from Mutare told Manica Post that she began working in the sex industry at the age of 16 and that when condoms are scarce, bread wrapping is used as a replacement.
During a media tour hosted by the National Aids Council, the condom problem was brought to light. Thigh merchants have resorted to utilizing bread packets as protection, according to Mutare medical practitioner Dr Tendai Zuze.
Employing baguette wrapping, according to Dr Zuze, is dangerous since it may not be sturdy enough to withstand friction pressure during intercourse. He went on to say that the bread packages might easily shatter, exposing those involved to the danger of highly contagious illnesses propagation.
