Two foreign nationals and a Ghanaian caught in two separate robberies are going to spend, between them a total of 55 years in jail as punishment for what they did.
The two foreigners, Emeka Opara and Samuel Kalo had attacked and robbed a customer of the Abrepo-Junction branch of the Ecobank, in the Kumasi Metropolis, they are each to serve a term of 20 years behind bars.
The Ghanaian, Edem Morkli together with two others now on the run and whose names have been given only as Atsu and Seth had attacked a scrap dealer at Dansoman, inflicted a deep cutlass wound and robbed him of his cash of Ghs2,000.00.
Edem Morkli who faced charges of conspiracy to commit crime, robbery and causing harm, was sentenced to 15 years on each of the three criminal charges by an Accra Circuit Court presided over by Susana Eduful, and the sentence is to run concurrently.
Emeka Opara and his pal, Samuel Kalo had attacked, snatched a bag of the bank’s customer containing the Ghs30,000.00 and fled with the cash.
The incident happened on Monday, May 30, 2022. The police response was swift – the criminal duo were chased and arrested together with the stolen cash.
Emeka Opara and Samuel Kalo were subsequently criminally charged with robbery, put before a Kumasi Circuit Court and they were each sentenced to a prison term of 20 years.
The police are not done with Emeka Opara and Samuel Kalo yet, as they have invited anybody with knowledge about any crime the pair had been involved in to come forward with the information.
With regard to Edem Morkli, he and his fugitive accomplices seized cash of Ghs2,000.00, inflicted cutlass wounds on their victim and attempted unsuccessfully to snatch his motorbike.
The victim would not let go of his motorbike without a fierce fight and that attracted some people who grabbed Edem Morkli before he could flee.
Atsu and Seth, however, managed to slip through with the stolen cash.
