The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority(NHIA), Dr. Benard Okoe Boye has encouraged Ghanaians to maintain proper hygiene in wake of the new disease. On Metro TV’S Good Morning Ghana show, Dr. Boye shared that maintaining personal hygiene is one way to avoid contracting the said disease, monkeypox.
He added that unlike the coronavirus the monkeypox disease is not as contagious. Detailing its transmission mode Dr. Boye said it could be contracted as a result o close contact with infected persons. Such forms of close contact include hugging, kissing, and sex.
The Ghana Health Service through its Director-General Dr. Patrick Kuma Aboagye confirmed on Wednesday, June 8 that the country has recorded 5 cases of monkeypox. All of these cases were recorded in the Eastern, Western, and Greater Accra Regions of the country.
