The Chief Executive of Shooting Stars FC, Randolph Rodrigues, believes the of the ‘BVB Legends VRS African Legends’ scheduled for the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, June 11, 2022, will serve as a bridge for creating and building opportunities for local talents.
Rodrigues, acknowledges that the presence of former Borussia Dortmund players and their officials involvement in bringing legends to Ghana will help open doors to establishing relationship with the Bundesliga giants, other European teams and continue to extend their support dominance on the African continent. “This is their first time in Africa and they want to have a bigger presence on the continent so I expect that they will probably want to do some other countries on the continent as well Dortmund. The Dortmund legends actually already have an infrastructure for this. They have actually been to a few other countries on their global tour.
They’ve been to Thailand, Brazil, previously so they already have a group of former players who are committed to do this to help build their own brand”, he noted. Rodrigues, touched on how his side brokered the event and hindrance which occurred in line with it preparations. “The initial contact was 3years ago, but we spent the last 2years actively in discussions with them about it. It was meant to happen last year but obviously because of COVID we had to keep adjusting the timelines”.
Rodrigues, outlined Shooting Stars FC’s agenda towards the development of talents in the country through this international exposure. “From shooting Stars perspectives, we are trying to build and creates opportunities for the youth in Ghana. We have this relationship with Dortmund that we’ll continue to develop, but we also looking to build relationships with other teams of international stature so we can create more avenues for young players with talent to be able to get exposure to sort off international market”, he noted.
