Is Togbe Afede’s Compassionate And Patriotic Gesture Worth Emulating

Some services rendered to the state should serve as an honor and therefore should never come with huge sums of money.

This is according to Togbe Afede XIV, the paramount chief of Sogli.

Whilest many Ghanaians hail him(Togbe Afede XIV) high for his kind, patriotic and compassionate gesture to the nation, others also chastised him for his act.

Togbe Afede served in the Council Of State from 2017 to 2020.

Upon his departure from serving, the government rewarded him with a huge sums of money as his Ex-gratia.

However, he refused the gesture by the government and asked that the monies be returned to the state’s coffers.

This kind gesture cannot be swept under the carpet.

The chief had social media ranting from notable journalists and ordinary Ghanaians to react over his rejection of the Ex-gratia.

First, Manasseh Azure Awuni said,

Again, Nuong Faalong equally shared her thoughts in a satirical way;

It’s sad to see this gesture being attributed to political lines.

He might have mean well but it’s being taken for something different.

Does his acts merit anything worth emulating?
