Ghana’s preparations for the World Cup hits a stumbling block.

The Black Stars are currently in Japan to participate in the Kirin Cup tournament. It’s a preparatory tournament to test our team before the upcoming World Cup. Their plans are now in jeopardy after a chunk of the squad has been ruled out of the tournament for varying reasons. Daniel-Kofi Kyereh has been permitted to go and sort out his club issues for next season. About five players have been ruled out after contracting covid-19. Gideon Mensah, Osman Bukari, Dennis Odoi, Elisha Owusu, and Kamaldeen Sulemana are the ones infected with the virus.

Others have also been left out due to injury. This has left Otto Addo with a depleted squad for the tournament. This will be a big blow to his preparatory plans. He could have tested some strategies to see how his charges will adapt but will just have to adjust. The Black Stars will be playing the hosts Japan tomorrow in the opening match of the tournament.
