A political marketing strategist is urging the leadership of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to overcome the double-standards and to call to order the President’s appointees openly declaring support for presidential hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Dr. Kobby Mensah of the University of Ghana Business School is warning that if this does not stop and is allowed to continue, there is going to be deep cracks in the party ahead of the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.
Dr. Kobby Mensah finds it curious that the very party leadership that had sanctioned some people for subtly supporting Alan John Kyeremanteng, has turned a blind eye and remained alarmingly silent on appointees who are not hiding their preference for Dr. Bawumia.
“We’ve heard quite a number of people posturing and nothing happens, and I think that it is very unfortunate and that is what brings divisions.”
It may be recalled that the President has warned of sacking any appointee who does not focus on the job assigned them and does politicking in times that they are supposed to work.
Many political watchers, however, do not see how any appointee is going to get booted out of office for publicly backing Dr. Bawumia, the indisputable choice of the political establishment.
Firebrand politician, Kennedy Agyapong, who has not hidden his ambition to lead the NPP to the 2024 general election has called for the party leadership to level the playing field for everybody who is interested in the party’s presidential primary election.
Kennedy Agyapong, the Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP) warned that anything short of an open, transparent and fair contest will have damning consequences for the unity and cohesion of the party ahead of the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.
He is riled by what is happening in the party, saying, “You call yourselves democrats, if you don’t want anybody to contest, be a dictator and let us know.”
