Omanhene Kwabena Asante has earned himself a place among the criticized and most insulted media personalities of today. This was as a result of his reaction to the refund of 364,000 cedis ex gratia from Togbe Afede to government. As stated in my article earlier, the ex gratia was returned by Togbe Afede after he revealed that the amount was too huge to be paid to him. His reasons were also because he was working to serve his country without any plans of benefitting this amount from the government.
The money after being returned has become the talk of the day. The majority has congratulated him whiles others have stated different opinions about this sudden move. Omanhene Kwabena Asante is one of these people and this is what is raising eye brows. Paying the money back is a good gesture by him. And paying it back means 365,000 cedis can be used for something better in this country since the economy is suffering already.
But according to Omanhene, this is an act of propaganda and a populist act by Togbe Afede. He was in disagreement with the refund of money since he thinks taking it earlier meant he liked the idea of being paid such an amount so why is he returning it now? The comments made by him has made people begin calling him a puppet for the incumbent government in spewing lies and making these irrelevant justifications. They think he should have been happier about the refund. And acting this way means he is defending his paymasters and making a damage control because this does not look good for government. He thinks this is basically propaganda and if he, Togbe Afede says it is not, he should provide letter of approval of the funds as well at the time it was being given to him and not return it alone.
