The Black Star remains one of the best teams in Africa. No wonder the Black Star team will be one of the teams to represent Africa in Qatar in a few months’ time. However, the public has reacted to the report in varied ways.
Some Ghanaians have mentioned that Augustine Okrah can reject the call-up if he feels he was not treated fairly, especially when he is being called back again after certain foreign players declined to go to Japan to play the four-nation Tournament against Japan, Chile, and Tunisia. In fact, Ghanaian football supporters have raised issues on why foreign-based players have refused to come to play but the Black Stars management team has tolerated them and even gone to beg them to reconsider and come.
Interestingly the Ghanaian supporters are asking Okrah to speak up now about everything that happened to him in the camp that has infuriated him. The fans do not want him to whisper differing opinions to some journalists around him, who would be using it to do ‘propaganda’ on radio and on social media against the GFA.
Many Ghanaians have also advised Coach Otoo Addo to avoid calling and dropping these players and rather manage them tactfully to avoid rampant rejections by these skillful players.
Readers can recall how a 1-1 draw against Nigeria on 29th March 2022 helped to book Ghana a place at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Readers can also reminisce how despite the away goals tiebreaker rule being canceled by European body UEFA for its club competitions in 2021-22, the rule was still in effect for FIFA World Cup qualifying, any two-leg playoffs around the world. As per FIFA rule, two-leg series were tied on aggregate goals at the end of the second match. And the rule enabled the Black Star to make use of our away goal as the first tiebreaker because that away goal was counted as double.
The Black Stars however secured a place at the World Cup but the 28-year-old Augustine Okrah, a former Kotoko player, was then called for the 4 Nation Tournament in Japan, which is part of the team’s preparation for the World Cup in Qatar but has reportedly turned down.
