The race to lead the NPP as flagbearer for the 2024 election is getting keener, as Hon. Kennedy Agyapong has emerged as the latest individual to publicly announce his intention to lead the party.
Before his announcement, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Alan kyeremanteng have been tipped to succeed Nana Akuffo Addo as flagbearer of the party.
In a video sighted on YouTube, Hon, Kennedy was asked in an interview with Dentaa, a British-Ghanaian entrepreneur the Five (5) major things he would do if he were president. And this was his response:
Tourism
He indicated he will use tourism as a catalyst for Ghana’s development. According to him, he has observed that successive governments did nothing except for the current administration, which tried something with the year of return but also failed with tourism. He continued to say, there are tourist sites in the country that can give the country money more than gold, as is evident in the amount of money spent by the year of return tourists within a short period.
Eradicate Favoritism and Nepotism
“Whether you are grandmother, grandfather, Minister, you make a mistake I will fire you. Favoritism and nepotism will cease.” He continued to say he will set an example and fire any minister who misbehaves even if Jesus is brought to intervene, to send a signal to subordinates.
Interest Rates
He indicated he will use industries to bring down interest rates in the country. He believes that industrialization can only go on when interest rates are low. He went on to say no president can come and succeed without the interest rates going down. “Ridiculous, Agric bank is saying 26%, commercial bank is saying personal loan 23%. We are not going to succeed.”
Agriculture
When it comes to agriculture, he said “we need large scale farmers in this country. Whether we like it or not advanced countries as rich as they are, subsidize their farmers. That is why rice is being imported into this country cheaper than the locally produced rice”
Technology
With technology he simply said “we cannot do away with technology” and that is true. The world is changing fast and that rapid change is being facilitated by technology. The more we lag, the more our development will delay.
