Teacher Kwadwo Laments On Akufo-Addo Releasing GHC 25M For Cathedral Whilst Schools Lack Text Books

Popular Comedian Michael Owusu Afriyie known as Teacher Kwadwo has lamented on the 25 Million Ghana Cedis released by the government as seed money for the construction of the National Cathedral. He said that while such an amount has been released, there is no text books for basic schools since the introduction of the new curriculum.

In a post shared on his official Facebook page on Saturday, 5th June 2022, Teacher Kwadwo wrote;

“President Akuffo Addo has released 25 million Cedis to be used to build a CATHEDRAL that he “personally” promised his God.

It’s almost 4 YEARS since the current CURRICULUM was introduced and not a single TEXT BOOK,COMPUTER or other TLRs have been given to any school to implement it.

As a Ghanaian TEACHER, mewerɛ aho!”

Background

The new standards-based curriculum which was implemented in September 2019 was rolled out from Kindergarten to Class 6 in primary. Since then no official textbooks from the government have been distributed to help it’s implementation in schools.

On June 3rd 2022, the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, Kwasi Kwarteng revealed on UTV’s Adekye Nsroma that the text books for the new curriculum will be ready by September 2022.
