An old video of the late former President of the Republic of Ghana, Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings shows how leaders must be treated to do what they promised they would do.
According to him, the President should be held accountable no matter who he is to do what he promised Ghanaians during the campaign.
This video was posted on the official social media page of US-based Ghanaian journalist, Kevin Ekow Taylor.
The exact year the video was captured isn’t known, but he made this statement during an interview with a female journalist.
He said; “We can vote people in and out, what we need to do in this country is to establish a situation where even if it was the ‘devil’ who should come and sit on top of us in Ghana, by certain procedures, certain practices, the ‘devil’ cannot get away with doing whatever he wants. He will necessarily have to do what the people expect of him”
His statements haven’t been used although there have been several Presidents who have failed to abide by their promises.
In my opinion, a law should be made to hold a President who has failed to fulfill a promise accountable.
