Asante Kotoko will be officially crowned champions of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League, GPL competition later this month.
The Porcupines will be presented with their winning medals and trophy on Sunday, June 12, 2022 at the Baba Yara Stadium after their league game with Elmina Sharks.
The Ghana Football Association, GFA has announced this move, stating further that this GPL Matchday 33 fixture will be an evening kick-off time and will be shown live on television.
Kotoko won their 26th GPL title on Thursday afternoon earning the point they needed to win the diadem at Obuasi in their outstanding fixture with AshantiGold SC.
The game ended 1-1, and, the point gained increases Kotoko’s lead at the top of the stairs to 10 points with three matches to end the campaign.
They have an unassailable lead at the summit of the competition and cannot be overtaken by any side in this 18-club contest.
It is expected to be a party atmosphere in the Garden City next weekend as Kotoko lie in wait to collect their first GPL trophy in eight years.
Before next Sunday’s game in Kumasi, Kotoko will be in action this Sunday when they take on Great Olympics at the Accra Sports Stadium in a Matchday 32 fixture.
They will look to win this one to set the stage for a grand ceremony at the Baba Yara Stadium when they will be decorated with their winning medals and the trophy it will come with after a successful season.
