Lawyer and KPMG Professor in Accounting at the Fisher School of Accounting, University of Florida, Stephen Kwaku Asare widely known as Kwaku Azar has lamented on the deplorable state of UNDP flats left at Cantonments. He has said that, may be there should be a new constitution to command occupants of government flats to maintain it.
In a post shared on his official Facebook page on Thursday, 2nd June 2022, he wrote;
“Squatters have taken over the UNDP flats at Cantoment since 2017 when the original occupants left the facility due to its deplorable condition.
The facility was constructed in 1960, to serve as a diplomatic enclave, offering residential accommodation to the staff of foreign missions in Ghana. It consists of forty-eight (48) flats, housed in four blocks of three (3) storey buildings.”
Prof Azar said he is quiet sure there is a department that is responsible for the maintenance of this facility. There are people who collect monthly checks, periodic fuel coupons, and rent allowances to maintain this facility.
I’m also sure that the diplomats were paying some good money, in foreign currency, to reside in this plush enclave.GOGO doesn’t understand why we choose to run government facilities this way. He added.
“Maybe we should write a new Constitution that commands those who are paid to maintain government facilities should do so!” Prof Azar concluded.
