The Roman Catholic Church in Ghana; in just two days ago received a good news.
The good news revealed that, one of its Ghanaian Bishops, Bishop Richard Kuuia Baawobr, was elevation by Pope Francis, to the level of a Cardinal.
According to the news, Bishop Baawobr, who is the Catholic Bishop of the Wa Diocese of the Roman Church, became the third Ghanaian bishop (after Cardinal Peter Appiah Turkson and the late Cardinal Peter Porekuu Dery, to be pushed to the Office of a cardinal.
Bishop Baawobr’s elevation, was a true good news to the Roman Church and Ghana and Ghana as a whole.
Few days After the good news, the Catholic Church has been hit with another news; this time, one of their Bishops; Bishop Emeritus of Tamale, Most Rev. Gregory Kpiebaya has passed dies.
The Most Rev. Kpiebaya was born on 8th September 1933 at Kaleo in the Upper West Region of Ghana .
The late Kpiebaya was ordained a Catholic priest on 8th September 1962, and also as the Bishop of Wa on 15th March 1975. He was later appointed Archbishop of Tamale on 6th November 1994.
In a statement release and signed by the Most Rev. Philip Nameh, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Tamale, stated that, “The Catholic Church has announced the death of Most Rev. Gregory E. Kpiebaya, Bishop Emeritus of the Tamale Diocese”.
The Statement added that, “Most Rev. Kpiebaya died at the Tamale Teaching Hospital on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, according to a statement signed by Most Rev. Philip Nameh, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Tamale”.
Bishop Nameh who is also the President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference, in the statement, asked members of the Catholic Church to pray for a peaceful repose of the late Bishop.
