It was an interesting discussion on The Big Issue on TV3’s New Day. The day saw Edudzi Tamakloe, a member of the NDC legal team clashing with Kofi Ameyaw, Ghana’s representative at the United Nations. The duo joined Johnnie Hughes to discuss certain pertinent issues bothering the country. Edudzi Tamakloe raised concerns about how government had embezzled Covid-19 funds.
In response Kofi Ameyaw explained that it was absurd to say that the government had misused funds. He explained that portions of the 750 million cedis that was to be disbursed were done in the right way and dispelled a tape trending purporting to have the voice of the NPP Second Vice Chair in the north saying otherwise. He added that even Johnnie Hughes, employer Media General also received some of the monies.
“I can assure you and let your producers verify that you were given some of the money. Media General were given portions. I am telling you for a fact. A lot of media houses got some. I am telling you. This was in the budget” Kofi Ameyaw said
Johnnie refused to accept this and distanced himself from it because he was not privy to that. He added that just because some monies went to the media didn’t mean that Media General and TV3 got some. In a rebuttal question he asked how much Media General received, a question that Kofi Ameyaw couldn’t answer. Kofi Ameyaw insisted that he agrees to a probe into the Covid-19 funds because the government has been transparent so far in accounting for the monies disbursed.
