GPL Week 31: Asante Kotoko Open Nine Points Lead After Picking All Points In Tarkwa, Etouga Scores

Ghana Premier League leaders Asante Kotoko have made a huge statement for the title following a 2 – 0 comprehensive victory against Medeama at Tarkwa. Evans Appau and top scorer Frank Etouga scored a two first half goals for the porcupine warriors.

The win has pushed coach Prosper Ogum and his lads to 59 points, opening 9 points difference with second placed Bechem United. Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko have an outstanding game against Ashantigold in Obuasi.

Before the clash, Asante Kotoko had gone winless in their  last 2 visits. Medeama went for the first attempt through Gyan Fosu’s cross but goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim was at full post to to deal with the scare. Richard Boadu responded for Asante Kotoko with a long range which deflected to Imoro but his effort to could not land a target. 

Evans Adomako targeted Frank Etouga but his cross touched the post and came out. Asante Kotoko kept their composure and dominated proceedings as Frank Etouga tried to beat Vincent Atinga but the latter was apt to salvage the situation for Medeama. 

Asante Kotoko had their way over Medeama for the first goal through Andrews Appau. The defender connected to a corner kick to hand the league leaders a deserving lead on the 23rd minutes. 

Medeama regrouped for an equalizer but Justice Anane has his shot soared, Fosu also came close by way of a counterattack, but his effort was wide. 

Asante Kotoko bounced back to life and added the second goal via goal monger Frank Etouga. It was his 20th goal of the season. 

Medeama made countless moves for a consolation but that could go as expected, as Asante Kotoko left no loopholes for them to take advantage of.

Asante Kotoko guarded their two goals to end the first half of the game. 

From recess, Asante Kotoko had the upper hand as they surged through Christopher Nettey, who found Frank Etouga but Vincent Atinga prowled around to intercept. Richard Boadu conquered the center part to feed his colleagues but Richmond Lamptey had his cross saved by goalkeeper Mosie.

Kwasi Donsu announced his presence with a powerful direct shot for Medeama but goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim was on duty. Medeama turned the heat on Asante Kotoko as they pushed balls forward and attacked from all angles but goalkeeper Danald Ibrahim emerged the brilliant spot for the league leaders.

Asante Kotoko ended the entire proceedings with their two goal advantage.
