Fiorentina defensive midfielder, Alfred Duncan has announced his retirement from international football through a detailed message to Ghanaians. The combative midfielder cited clear and straightforward reasons as to why he made his decision.
He stated in the letter the numerous times he was overlooked during national team selection leading to mental instability.
“When you are never considered and there is nothing you can do about the situation, mentally it becomes difficult”.
He also cited unfair treatment anytime he is called into the squad. Not giving him any chance to cement his place in the squad.
“Unfortunately i cannot continue to feel bad thinking about how I am been unfairly treated knowing that I have a clear conscience”
In addition, he narrated an instance of which the team travelled to play a friendly in Canada. Everyone one was a given minutes to play except him.
“When I was a Sassuolo player, I had psychological trauma after traveling 15 hours to Washington to play a friendly against Canada and then not even play a minute….It was a very difficult period for me”, he stated.
He mentioned the likes of Kwasi Appiah, Avram Grant, CK Akonnor and the GFA president clearly stating they know what he is talking about.
“I put an end to story that never began in order to have the peace and serenity that i deserve and to be able to continue working for Fiorentina, the team that values and respects me for who I am and the passion i pit into my daily work”. He concluded
Do you think his reasons are good enough? Should the GFA try to convince him to rescind his decision just as they are trying to do with Salisu?
