With less than two days to the NPPâs regional conference, the 29 candidates vying for the 10 available positions in the Western Region are rounding off their campaigns with meetings with various identifiable groups.
Charles Cobbina, alias Kempiss, who is one of the lead contenders for the Secretary position in the Western Region addressing journalists in Takoradi, said the NPP needs a Secretary who can calm nerves and resolve conflicts in the party in order to break the-8, which he is better placed to do.
âThe upcoming 2024 elections will require bringing back party officials who are aggrieved due to conflicts before, during and after the partyâs internal elections. The NPP needs all its supporters and sympathizers to break the eight, therefore our greatest post-election activity would be to heal wounds, build bridges and unite the party for the huge task of breaking the eight. I have what it takes to anchor therefore, let us approach this quest by choosing a Secretary who is competent, experienced, inclusive, innovative and mature. We need a Secretary who is able to calm nerves and bring the party together for the task ahead. We need a secretary who can think on his feet in the heat of the battle. We need a secretary who can make the needed adjustment and stimulate our teams to remain committed to the end. That is no other than myself. That is why I seek the support and mandate of our trusted party officers to lead the pack in the Western Region to take our rightful place as a party,â he said.
Charles Cobbina, alias Kempiss who has worked in various portfolios in the campaign of the Western Regional Minister and the party for decades highlighting some of his programmes for the region when elected, said the first would be to resource the constituencies.
âAs promised, I will begin my administration by providing laptops with modems for all constituency Secretaries and their deputies, communication officers as well as Research and Election officers. I believe that prompt and effective communication and research depend on access to modern devices and technology for swift communication. That is why I have committed to resourcing these officers of our party to ensure smooth and quick information flow. Again, I shall work with the leadership of the party to provide the needed training and resources for all officers to prosecute an effective campaign aimed at winning back seats that were lost in the last elections and even moreâ, he added.
To help contribute to the health of party members, Kempiss promised to do so through his Awhendzepa Nkasa Health Tent.
When asked how he intends to fund the logistics for office resourcing and health programme, Charles Cobbina, who has several years of NGO working experience, said he will use his contacts and skills of lobbying to raise the needed resource as a Regional Secretary for his programme.
He is contesting from the fourth position on the ballot paper against three other contenders.
